Business Rules The World.

Well, I finally decided to start writing again. I think that with all that is going on in the world, a person just needs a place to empty their thoughts. Since there are now thousands if not millions of people gracing the internet with their thoughts, I figured I might as well add mine to the mix.

I was inspired to write tonight in particular because of a wired article about the woman who lost her husband. It made me sad to hear of her story. Then I got to thinking about the freedoms we enjoy here (the very same ones that I haven't been exercising) like our freedom of speech.

There has been a lot on my mind of late. I think there is a lot on everyone's mind. In a time of war, with the current political and social atmosphere, it seems that all emotions are running high.

On this specific note, it always amazes me the ultimate roll that money plays in our world. Because, when stuff like this happens, it really only comes down to money right? Yahoo, Google and countless other business want to grow their profit margins. To grab all those adword dollars available in China they are willing to support, or at least cooperate with an oppressive regime. The message that American business is sending it's people right now, is that profit is more important that people. Lets move our manufacturing over there, why? Profit. Lets expand our business there, why? Profit. Hey man, I am just as excited about money as these companies are. I just wonder sometimes what is going to happen to this world.

What will happen to our country and our freedom of speech? We freedom of speech it now, to a point. If I put the word "bomb" in this post, even though no citizen may read it I can count on at least a government computer to read it. (Please respond, the world wants to hear from you!!) Because, those who have the power, want to keep the power, and that means keeping others from the power.

You know, this really is just a brain dump. Just all these emotions I have been keeping inside. It is interesting to watch the dramas unfolding in the world.

As we pour our economic resources into China, we make their economy stronger. We don't necessarily make ours weaker, but what happens if the western world is no longer profitable to China's leaders? Boasting close to a third of the world's population, China will be a very formidable enemy.

I suppose we just need to make sure that freedom is good business. As long as a free world is good for business, there will be allowed a free world. But the minute that freedom becomes bad for business, goodbye freedom.

Currently, the oppressed world is good for American business, and as long as we can take advantage of cheap labor and land to make our products and further our consuming habits, the oppressed world will be allowed to exist. Oppressors will be allowed to oppress as long as it our profits stay high, and we get "ours".

That is what its all about isn't it? Whats in it for me? Of course it is. It is silly to think it is any other way. We are here, we live in these bodies, we have to survive. Sitting in my living-room, warm, well-fed (although a bit sick right now), it will be easy for me to get-up and forget about that man, sitting in a cell for loving the very thing that I enjoy every day, freedom.

Hopefully, freedom will prevail and the oppressors will lose the power to oppress. Hopefully, the government computer reading this post will realize that I am just another average Joe and the Feds don't bust down my door. Hopefully, this blog will allow me a place to process all these random thoughts.

Oh, and one more thing: Thank you Google for spending your money and giving me a place to write. I know that you are censoring in China, and I only hope you will change your ways. I like your motto, Do no Evil. I hope you can live up to it someday.

But what do I know?
